Vernon Transportation Company : Loaded with Integrity

How We Operate...

We have a state of the art fleet that provides maximum payloads, a proven sanitary design,  very driver friendly, and safe to work around as well as be on top of.

As we move forward after the new 2007 Emission Regulations that are being required on all diesel engines, you will begin to see a new look in our fleet, as we buy equipment that will be required by the State of California.

You will begin to see extremely lightweight tractor designs, and a larger use of air fairings to reduce drag.

Rather than trying to circumvent the process of the Governor’s “Green Initiative”, we have decided to embrace the future and lead the way.

You will begin to see our fleet have an option of “plugging in” to our customers electricity at their facility.  The economics of burning diesel and creating emissions will now be factored into everything we do.

As we have always done in the past, we will work with our key customers to install on-site pumps and blowers.

This allows us to not have to install so many of the units on our tractors, thus allowing us to haul larger payloads.  Larger payloads means less trucks on the road.

We operate lightweight tanker wagons, state of the art bulk pneumatic trailers, that are capable of loading themselves.  This is useful for transferring loads from rail car to truck.

Our trucks are spec’d out for performance and driver comfort. All equipment is air ride suspension, with all gauges and switches on the dash. "Tuck and Roll" leather interiors are standard, along with the best stereo systems with CD players and satellite radio.

We go so far as to add outside temperature gauges on our trucks, so our drivers can monitor the ice conditions of the roadways they travel, and can judge the affect the outside temperature may have on their load while in transit. Our drivers can request higher product temperatures during the loading process to ensure that our customers receive their product at the exact temperatures they request.

Our Bulk Granulated Sugar trailers are state of the art.  They are 1,600 cubic feet, with 6 inch discharge lines. All the trailers are air ride with inverted axles. These bulk tank units are specifically built to transport SUGAR! We will haul no other commodity in our bulk units.

For safety reasons, all of our equipment is equipped with very loud back up alarms. We operate in many situations where the delivery area is tight and visibility is impaired. If we ever have to back up, we want everyone around to know that an 80,000 pound semi truck and trailer is on the move!

Further, all of our trailers are equipped with high powered work lights. Many of our deliveries are made in the middle of the night. We want our employees to be able to see and know exactly what they are doing while making deliveries to our customers.

Safety is big for us.  Over the years, we have worked hard to build a company and a culture where people are empowered to use common sense, and not get hurt.  Our insurance ratings and safety record is a testament to that.

Most of our tank units have built-in safety cages to ensure that anyone who has to go on top of one of our tank trailers is completely safe and free from harm

It is not unusual for many of our customers to require a sample of the product by opening the dome lid on top of the tank. Because most tank trailers operated in our industry are unsafe to take a proper sample, we have gone the extra step and have built a very well thought out safety platform. Both our customers and employees appreciate this.  Customers like these will only accept trailers with safety platforms.  Many California carriers are adopting this safety measure.

Once again, our customers feel safe when they are required to take samples from the top of the trailer. It is safety improvements like these that make our company the best at what we do.

In order to ensure on time deliveries and equipment integrity to our customers, Vernon Transportation utilizes the following equipment:

  • Kenworth  & Peterbilt Trucks.
  • Caterpillar  & Cummins engines.
  • We use Eaton transmissions. The smooth shifting and long-term reliability of Eaton is what we look for. Eaton is also the lightest transmission made.
  • Our trucks are spec’d out for performance and driver comfort. All equipment is air ride suspension, with all gauges and switches on the dash.
  • West-Mark Manufacturing, Brenner Tank and Walker Stainless are our tank trailer manufacturers.
  • Our Bulk Granulated Sugar trailers are state of the art, and manufactured by J & L
  • All units have built-in safety cages to ensure that anyone who has to go on top of one of our tank trailers is completely safe and free from harm. It is safety improvements like these that make our company the best at what we do.
